Determining your skin type can be beneficial in a myriad of ways.
Skin type is determined by genetics. The condition of our skin can, however, vary greatly according to the various internal and external factors it is subjected to.
Skin types are broken up into 5 main categories:
Normal, Oily, Dry, Combination, and Sensitive
Each has its distinctive characteristics.
Does your skin type make you more or less susceptible to fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of premature aging?
Oily Skin
Oily skin is often prone to breakouts while dry and sensitive skin has trouble retaining moisture, frequently leading to discomfort and flakiness.
Oily skin contains high levels of natural lipids. The increased presence of these lipids aids in the formation of a protective barrier preventing water loss and sustaining skin functions. These protective barriers help mitigate the development of wrinkles, laxity, and roughness often associated with drier skin conditions.
And, has a tendency to look glossy and more naturally radiant which can camouflage other skin imperfections.
Dry Skin
Less forgiving, however, it does not mean that you are doomed to age faster. There are many ways that you can control dryness that are bigger contributors. Aging of skin is due to UV damage and oxidative damage leading to loss of collagen, the appearance of sunspots, and unwanted pigmentation as well as redness. As the skin becomes drier as we age hydration is crucial. Cellular turnover slows and your epidermis looses the ability to hold moisture as well, in addition to producing less of its own oils.
Combination skin
Recognized having oily skin in some areas of your face and dry skin in other areas. Typically the T-zone, forehead, nose and chin are more prone to oiliness, while the dry areas are usually around the cheeks, jaw area and along the hairline.
Sensitive skin
Naturally sensitive, Environmentally sensitive, Reactive and Thin.
Naturally sensitive is genetic and can be linked to inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis. Sensitive skin may look red and swollen. It could feel itchy, or sting and burn.
Normal skin is the rarest skin type.
-It is well-balanced
-Plump and has even skin tone
-Pores appear small
-Minimal skin concerns and blemishes
