6 Summer Skincare Tips

1) Exfoliate

Exfoliating away dead skin cells is crucial during the summer months in order to reveal beautiful, soft, and glowing skin. I’m not just talking about exfoliating your face, but your whole body as well. Since we are sporting those must-have sun dresses, shorts, and tanks, we need to make sure our limbs are ready for exposure, too. You want to make sure to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week, and this can be done in the shower. Another important reason to exfoliate is for that gorgeous spray tan. You always want to make sure to exfoliate right before getting a spray tan, but NEVER after since you will be rubbing off your beautiful, fresh, golden glow.

2) Moisturize

When summertime hits, it’s time to swap out those rich moisturizers for lighter, featherlike ones. The reason for this is there is already so much moisture and humidity in the air in the summer, so our skin typically does not need an extra dose of moisture.

3) SPF, SPF, SPF

This is a no brainer. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear your SPF on the daily, no questions asked. Make sure to apply an SPF of 15 or higher after your moisturizer and avoid the sun between the hours of 10am and 4pm when UV rays are most damaging. Certain medications, birth control pills, and antihistamines may make you more photosensitive.

4) Brighten Up

Who wouldn’t want a brighter, glowing complexion during the summer? Use brightening serums regularly, day and night before you moisturize, on those balmy, summer days to lighten discoloration and hyperpigmentation in order to gain a smoother look that will pair quite nicely with that beautiful spray tan of yours.

5) H2O All Day Long

Drink up! It is crucial to make sure you are taking in lots and lots of water throughout the day. This is especially necessary to do during the summer months, since we tend to lose a lot of water through sweat. Not only is this important for our body to keep us healthy and wash away toxins, but also for our skin. The more water you drink, the better your skin will look. Water helps to keep our skin hydrated and clear.

6) Less Is More

When it comes to makeup, it is best to skip on the heavier foundations and dramatic eye looks. Keep it simple – dab a little concealer under the eyes and use either compressed powder or loose mineral powder on top to set the concealer, as this also gives your face that beautiful, smoothed-over flawless look. If you want to give your cheeks a rosy glow, brush on some blush on the apples of your cheeks. If you are looking for that summertime bronzed glow, lightly brush on some bronzer underneath your cheek bones and blend it in up to your temples. To give your face a smooth, enhanced look, opt for a nude eye shadow or soft taupe and brush it onto your eyelids, and then apply mascara. It is best to skip the heavy eyeliners and dark shadows to avoid a makeup meltdown in the summer heat. Furthermore, too much makeup in the summer could cause breakouts since we sweat, and all that makeup, sweat, oil, and bacteria gets clogged in our pores, leading to breakouts. There you have it: a minimal summertime makeup routine that enhances your natural features and leaves you with a polished look.
