Step Away from the Pimple

We’ve all been told that prodding and poking at a pimple will make it worse… but come on; walking around with a huge zit on your face is extremely hard to do. All you can think about when you look in the mirror is popping that little sucker! DON’T! You are only going to make it worse.
An inflamed blemish occurs when your pores are filled with excess sebum, dead skin cells, dirt, oil, makeup, bacteria or all of the above. When you squeeze a pimple, you might accidently force the debris even deeper into the pore, rather than causing it to come out to the surface of the skin. This can cause a lot of stress on the affected area and the surrounding skin, causing your zit to become larger, redder and more noticeable. Squeezing could also cause a break in the hair follicle wall, causing greater inflammation, resulting in more damage and a longer healing time.
Trying to pop a pimple could not only make the blemish worse, slowing down the healing process, it could even lead to permanent scarring- something no one wants on their face! Don’t let your pimple outsmart you! Just because you are squeezing out a little pus or debris, doesn’t mean there’s nothing lurking under the surface. Think of it this way; you know how an iceberg looks large above the surface, but is even larger under the water? Your zit is like that iceberg, ugly on the surface, but worse underneath.
So what do you do if you already poked or popped a zit and don’t want it to reek havoc on your face? First of all, wash your hands, cleanse your face and make sure to KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THE AREA! You have already done damage; you don’t want to do any more.
First, you should apply some of Kiki’s “On the Spot Blemish Control Treatment” onto the problem area. It will not only help sanitize the area, it will also help dry it out, speeding up the healing process. Now leave the pimple alone and re-apply once in the morning, after washing your face with Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide2.5% Wash. This will help get rid of any dead skin cells, left over makeup, that may be left on your skin, as well as kill off acne bacteria. Next, use a dab of Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide Lotion 10% as a spot treatment on the blemish. This will also help to dry out the area and kill off acne bacteria.
Next, apply a small amount of Kiki’s Fruit Acid Serum all over your face. This serum contains AHA/BHA fruit blends that will help boost cell turnover, helping to further the healing process. Lastly, apply a light layer of Kiki’s Clarifying Cream as a moisturizing barrier. You do not want to go to heavy with moisturizing products, especially around the affected area.
A single pimple takes 90 days to develop. Whatever preventative steps you take today will not only prevent your current pimple from becoming worse, but will also prevent more pimples from occurring two or three months from now!
Using the mentioned products on a routine basis and regular facials will help reduce your acne and the temptation to pick. If you find yourself to be a compulsive pimple picker, try getting your eyebrows waxed rather than plucking them. Sitting in front of a magnified mirror leads to poking and popping you would not have done otherwise. If that still doesn’t work, try wearing cotton gloves whenever possible, or find something to keep your hands and mind busy. Picking is a habit that CAN BE BROKEN!
Always remember- if you’re getting the urge to pick, STEP BACK and call your regular aesthetician. She or he would be more than happy to help!
