Are you mindful of exposure to the sun?
Sunburn, Ultraviolet Radiation or UV Rays cause damage (or mutation) to the skin that can lead to Melanoma and other skin concerns.
Our bodies have amazing mechanisms to prevent and even correct these mutations, but, if the skin cells get more UV exposure than they can handle the damage may be beyond repair, and the cells die off.
UVA Rays penetrate deep into the thickest layer of skin which can lead to premature skin aging and wrinkling (photo aging).
UVB Rays will burn the superficial layer of skin and play a key role in the development of skin cancer.
Risk Factors include:
- History of frequent or intense sun exposure
- Blistering Sunburns -Red or Blonde hair, Fair skin, Freckles and Blue or Light-colored eyes.
- A family or personal history of Melanoma.
- People of all skin tones can develop skin cancer.
There are lots of simple ways to Prevent damage by being “SUN SAFE” and avoiding Sunburn.
Be sure to choose a Sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, one that is water resistant, and offers Broad Spectrum Protection.
Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before exposure to the sun and reapply often.
Cover up with hats, sunglasses and UV protective clothing.
Makeup and Moisturizers that include Sunscreen in their ingredients should not be relied on alone to protect your skin. The amount of foundation or moisturizer that you apply is not sufficient to protect from damaging UVA/UVB rays. Go ahead and apply Sunscreen over your moisturizer and before you apply foundation or tinted moisturizer.
Kik Skin & Body Spa has added a new Sunscreen to the collection of skin care products: Mineral Tint Defense SPF 30
