We all try to do our best to take care of our skin. We drink plenty of water, stay away from the tanning beds and avoid harsh cleansers. But chances are you’re still making a few skincare mistakes in your daily skincare routine. Here are a few skincare crimes that aestheticians see most often.
1. Over-Exfoliating Your Skin. We all love that smooth, baby soft feeling our skin has after exfoliating, but overdoing it can be causing more damage to your skin than you think. Over-using cleansing tools such as the Clarisonic or any abrasive scrubs can cause inflammation, a culprit behind both acne and aging. No one needs to exfoliate more than three times a week.
Instead, use a gentle cleaner on the face followed by a soothing exfoliant, noting too harsh or abrasive on the skin. If you have acne-prone, use the Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Wash. This will not only cleanse your skin, it will also help to thoroughly remove sebum and cellular debris, without stripping or drying your skin. If you have drier skin, use Kiki Kosmetiks Nourishing Cleanser. The formula is designed to thoroughly remove impurities while maintaining moisture levels in your skin. Natural botanical extracts of Chamomile, Aloe, and Vitamins A & E are the perfect blend to hydrate and rejuvenate dry skin. After you have cleansed, use a gentle exfoliant to sluff off any dry skin and debris.
2. Applying Sunscreen Once a day, or Skipping Application. This is a MAJOR skincare no-no!! If you truly want to keep your skin looking young and fresh, sunscreen is your best friend. The sun can do some major damage on your skin, your face especially. Just because you are not laying out in the sun doesn’t mean your skin is safe form the suns harmful rays. We wear sunglasses when we get in the car on a sunny day to protect our eyes from glare and the suns penetration. Our face should be getting the same treatment!
Sunscreen will only protect your skin for approximately two hours after application. If you want coverage until sundown, you need to reapply. Carry a powder compact in your purse with an SPF. That way your face is staying protected all day without disrupting your makeup.
3. Skipping Moisturizer on Oily or Acne-Prone Skin. Many people with acne-prone skin assume that moisturizer will break them out and make their skin look worse. They try any acne product they can find to dry out their skin as much as possible, thinking they are balancing their skin out to appear “normal.” Does this sound familiar to you?
The reason that doesn’t work is that your skin needs moisture, whether it’s dry, oily, or acne-prone. If it gets too dry, it will produce more oil to make up for it. By drying out your skin and not applying moisturizer, you’re actually making it oilier!
Using a moisturizer such as Kiki Kosmetiks Clarifying Cream will help to add moisture to your skin while combating any acne. Its special formula contains active botanicals to purify, brighten and stabilize oily skin. Antioxidants, along with Vitamins A, C and E will boost cell turn over, and protect and improve skins elasticity, giving your skin a radiant and youthful look.
If you’ve committed any of these skincare faux pas, it’s not too late to turn your skin regimen around! Taking any preventative steps to help keep your skin as healthy as can be will keep you looking young and fresh for years to come!
